Your first task

This guide takes one change through the factory. You will:

  • Turn an input into a task with intake
  • Settle it with probe
  • Build it with build
  • Review and merge the pull request
  • Close it with accept

Each step runs in its own session. A session does its step, names the next step, and waits. Type /exit to close it, then start the next step from the panel.

  1. #Press New

A tab opens with an intake session, and it asks what the new work is. Paste your input.

A health check. GET /health returns 200 with {"status":"ok"}, with no login. Keep it small, and don't check the database.

intake says the work again in its own words, and asks if it is correct. Then it writes tasks/T-001-health-check.md, with the status draft.

  2. #Press Probe

Open the card, press Probe, then Follow in a tab. probe reads the task and the code. It asks you about what is still open, with a recommended answer for each question, and it writes each answer in the task. When nothing is open, it sets the status to ready.

  3. #Press Build

Open the card, and press Build. No person needs to watch it. build works on the branch task/T-001, writes the code and a test for each acceptance criterion, runs the checks, and opens a pull request. Then it sets the status to review.

If the work needs a decision about what the product does, build writes the question, and sets the status to blocked. Press Probe to answer it.

  4. #Review the pull request

Read the diff on GitHub. The body of the pull request has the result of each criterion, and the items under ## Deployment requirements, ## Context changes and ## Discovered work.

To ask for a change, write a comment on the pull request, then press Triage. It writes the change under ## Rework of the task, and sets the status to ready. Press Build to do it.

  5. #Press Accept

Press Accept, then Follow in a tab. It shows the goal, the evidence and the decisions of the build. You accept or reject the task. If you accept, it asks if it must merge the pull request. You can also merge on GitHub first.

Then it shows each item under ## Context changes. You accept, change or drop each one, and it writes what you accepted to context/. It adds the discovered work to the inbox, and sets the status to done.
